CONSUL-General of the People’s Republic of China in Lagos, Ms Yan Yuqing, has reaffirmed China’s commitment to deepening its long-standing partnership with Nigeria as both countries mark major national milestones.

Yuqing made the pledge on Tuesday at the opening of the China Pavilion at the ongoing 2025 Lagos International Trade Fair.

She said China remained ready to expand cooperation with Nigeria across multiple sectors, aligning its development priorities with Nigeria’s Renewed Hope Agenda and its eight-point economic focus areas.

According to her, China and Nigeria continue to enjoy a productive and mutually beneficial relationship, strengthened by recent high-level exchanges between both nations.

The envoy noted that President Bola Tinubu’s state visit to China further elevated bilateral relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership, opening new opportunities for cooperation and investment.

Yuqing said trade between the two nations had continued to flourish, reflecting strong vitality and resilience in spite of global economic challenges.

She said, “From January to September this year, bilateral trade volume reached 20 billion U.S. dollars, representing a 32.6 per cent year-on-year increase.

“This robust trade has contributed significantly to Nigeria’s socioeconomic development.”

Yuqing assured that China would continue to support Nigeria in key sectors such as infrastructure, industrial chain upgrading, digital transformation, agricultural modernisation, food security, cultural exchange, and vocational training.

“Looking ahead, China is willing to work with Nigeria to implement the common understandings reached by our leaders.

“We aim to use the 55th anniversary of diplomatic ties to further deepen cooperation and friendship between our two nations,” she added.

In his remarks, Mr Gabriel Idahosa, President of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), called for stronger investment collaborations between Nigeria and China to unlock economic opportunities and boost regional trade integration.

He also encouraged Nigerian manufacturers to learn from China’s business model, where entrepreneurship thrives through small-scale, diversified production systems that fuel industrial growth and innovation.

Idahosa commended China’s consistency in supporting Africa’s economic development through trade, infrastructure, and human capacity building, describing it as a partnership that continues to yield tangible results.

The 2025 Lagos International Trade Fair, organised by the LCCI, provides a platform for local and international exhibitors to showcase innovations, deepen business linkages, and promote sustainable trade relations. (NAN)
